I feel lonely

We’re here to help you find the support you need.

Many of us feel lonely from time to time. Feelings of loneliness are personal, so everyone’s experience will be different.

If loneliness is affecting your life, there are things you can try that may help.

Having lots of friends and contacts in your life doesn’t mean you won’t feel lonely. For many of us, feeling lonely is linked to low self-esteem or self-confidence.

Sometimes, improving our relationships with ourselves, as well as others, can help us feel less lonely.

You could start by thinking about what self-care means to you. Some people who live or work alone find it comforting to have some background noise. This could be the television, the radio or a podcast you enjoy.

It may help to make time to do activities you enjoy by yourself. For example, resurrecting an old skill or hobby, going for a walk in a place you love or cooking a favourite meal from scratch. It could also be re-watching a film you enjoy, decluttering your workshop, farmyard or home or taking time out to go to a farming and rural show or technical event in your area.

It’s OK to try different things to find what makes you feel good. Be patient with yourself.
