We’re here to help you find the support you need.
Feeling low is part of all our lives at some stage. Everyone feels upset, sad or disheartened from time to time, but for some of us it can be a real problem.
Talk to someone
Conversations with trusted friends, family and colleagues, or contacting our YANA helpline can help when we are struggling.
Move more and rest better
If you can, do little things every day to be more active. Stand up to stretch your legs when sitting for long periods. Walk your dog or simply take a stroll or run. Moving your body can lift your mood.
If you have a very physical job or work for very long hours for days on end, then resting your tired body can help restore your mood.
Seek out social time
Social activities like watching sport with a friend or meeting up for coffee can improve your day.
Try to avoid things that may seem enjoyable but make you feel worse afterwards, such as drinking too much alcohol or eating junk food.
Know what lifts your mood
Low mood can make us feel tired, and tiredness can also have a negative impact on our mood. Recognising that can motivate you to break the cycle.
Feeling low can stop us doing important or enjoyable activities. Try listing the things you enjoy and make sure you do some of them each day. Start with easier ones and, as you progress, your mood should improve.
It’s OK to feel what you’re feeling. You’re not alone in this.
